JD was an outstanding sports car pilot in his own right and along with Ron Fellows, were the mainstays of our sports car coverage in the early years of the show.įrom sports cars, or “tin-tops” as some call them, it was an outstanding 2022 for Toronto teen Mac Clark, who claimed this year’s U.S Formula Junior crown for DEForce Racing. Parker’s championship for JDX Racing, at the buttons of his #9 Porsche 911, re-connected Raceline Radio with team owner Jeremy Dale. That’s damn good shooting in anybody’s league! With 5 wins, “The Red Deer Rocket” finished on the podium 12 times over 16 races. We stay with Porsche machinery for the other major Canadian sports car championship of 2022: Red Deer Alberta’s Parker Thompson win and a 3 rd in the Road Atlanta season-closers nailed down the Porsche Carrera Cup North America title, over-coming an 11-point deficit. The Pfaff boys were so good this year they clinched their championship as soon as they started the finale at Road Atlanta. They led division points for nearly the entire schedule after their season-opening win of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and starting at Laguna Seca, they were never off the podium. Specifically, our sports car people were simply superb this year!Ĭanadian Pfaff Motorsports based out of Vaughan Ontario followed up their 2021 IMSA GTD championship with a GTD-Pro title this season with drivers Matt Campbell of New Zealand and Mathieu Jaminet of France in their “Lumber Jack” #9 Porsche 911 GT-3 R. This all goes back 30 years ago in 1992 when The Raceline Radio Network first went on the air, just as Scott Goodyear and Al Unser Junior set the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history, and carries through three decades later. This once again confirms a claim I made years ago that our race car drivers make up one of the most successful international sports contingents Canada has. The other stand-out highlight as we wind down 2022, our 30 th Anniversary season, was the success Canadian drivers enjoyed.
Luckily, we didn’t lose very many tracks, if any, at all during the Covid-19 slow down. It’s a tremendous strain on the owners and promoters when there’s no “gate”, paying customers that provide the revenue needed to pay the bills and stay open.
